Director's Message

- This is an exciting time to be a part of the Comprehensive Drug Research Center (CDRC).  Since its inception in 1974, the CDRC has been on the cutting edge of drug abuse and health research.  With the advent of the HIV/AIDS epidemic our mission has become even more important.  We strive to serve both the individual drug users and the community as a whole.  Recognizing the public health implications of both drug abuse and HIV/AIDS, we are developing interventions to reduce drug abuse and the risk behaviors that lead to the transmission of HIV.  We also are developing programs to improve the health of drug users and other minority groups including HIV-positive individuals.

The CDRC is truly a multidisciplinary enterprise.  Talented world renowned researchers from diverse fields including epidemiology, sociology, virology, anthropology, and psychiatry are working under the umbrella of the CDRC.  Administrative support and sharing of resources allow the investigators to perform their research in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.

An enormous amount of knowledge has been generated and will continue to be generated through the CDRC.  This web site gives an idea of the extent of our endeavors.  I feel privileged to be a part of the development and implementation of the many high caliber projects performed through the CDRC.

Clyde B. McCoy, Ph.D.
